Beat the Block

By June 11, 2014March 4th, 2017No Comments
Last week, I shared my most recent struggle with Creative Blocks and Burnout. I outlined the steps that I took to identify my issue, along with the steps that I took to recover.

At the end of that post, I asked you to share your tips and tricks for battling creative blocks and burnout by tweeting, using the hashtag #BeatTheBlock.

Quite a few of you responded and here are a few of my favorites…

Kristen Neill

Walk away and do something else creative like listen to music, draw, paint, or workout.

Mr. Learning

Exercise! I do some of my best thinking either in the gym or on the trails. Definitely gets my mind moving.

Change your view. Look at what you want to get out of the learning (from an end user’s perspective). Interview a couple end users, asking how they see the piece you’re struggling with. Sometimes when you can see the bridge from the other side, you can better figure out how to get across it.

Jackie Van Nice

I dismiss it from my mind & walk or bike in nature, then brainstorm & sketch loosely AWAY from the desk!

Debbie Wooldridge

I try getting a different perspective – brainstorm with a colleague always helps!
